Changes on Mount Desert Street

You may have noticed the house at 28 Mount Desert Street is looking empty. We are excited to say that the building should be coming down very soon. Throughout June we have been busy salvaging recyclable and reusable materials from the building and finding new homes for plants on the property. Book inventory from Secondhand Prose, the used book store, has been moved to the second smaller building on the lot on School Street.

Soon, we will begin the process of foundation sealing, drainage repair, façade work and masonry repointing on and around the Jesup's historic building. After this extraordinarily wet spring we have had (which had us worried about another water infiltration issue) we could not be happier to make this leap forward in our mission to preserve, protect and expand the Jesup. Upon completion, the library will be protected not only for another winter, but for future generations of our community to gather in and enjoy.

Thank you to all of our supporters who have gotten us to Phase 2 and enabled us to begin this critical work on our building. But we still have further to go: Phase 2 includes raising $1 million by the end of this summer--$450,000 of that sum is still needed to reach that mark.

We invite you to learn more about the phases of the campaign, and our plans and fundraising goals for Jesup 2020 by visiting our Timeline and Budget section, or by contacting us directly.

Thank you for supporting Jesup 2020. We’re on our way!
